Yes you can eat garlic on a low FODMAP diet. Surprised? Read the cap ton for more information.
Fresh garlic is high in the FODMAP fructan therefore still needs to be avoided during the elimination phase.
However, pickling changes the FODMAP content! This means that 1 clove of pickled garlic is low FODMAP.
Pickled garlic has a milder taste and is slightly sweet.
Pickled garlic in larger quantities contains fructose and not fructans. So this is good news if you passed the fructose challenge in reintroduction!

As a dietitian with IBS these are my top tips when travelling.
Carry an empty water bottle. Airports have water filling stations after security so you can fill your bottle and ensure you stay well hydrated. This will help reduce bloating.
Pack your usual medication and supplements. This includes probiotics and fibre supplements if you usually take these!
Tissues and wipes. There is nothing worse than realising there is no toilet paper.
Pack food and snacks for the journey as finding suitable options at the airport can be challenging.
Wear comfy bloat friendly clothing. Gas and bloating are common when flying due to the change in air pressure.
